While the earth remains, seedtime
and harvest
shall not cease. Genesis 8:22
Dear Union Family and
Friends,
Giving honor to God, our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, Bishop Z. L. Grady and Presiding Elder O. Mackey, Sr. Greetings in
the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Union has been blessed by God with
many strong leaders in the past. As Union approaches the turn of her century, it is my
humble privilege to serve during her time of several first. We are rejoicing over the turn
of her first century. This is her first time having a woman pastor and first husband. This
is also the first time in her history that she is a Zion to many persons in the midst of
their own geographical and spiritual exodus. Now, I prayerfully present to you, the
understanding given to me by God. This letter is intended to address the question,
Where do we go from here?"
Through the leadership of the many
great leaders of her past and especially the two most recent: Reverends Paul Owens and
Ronald L. Ivey, God has brought Union A.M.E. Church to a new height. Under Pastor Owens,
Union was able to provide proper ground for proper growth (I am still told of renovations
and the many prayer meetings). It is also my belief, that God called Pastor Ivey to plant
proper seed for this good soil. I am a witness to and a recipient of the multitude of
goods seeds planted in this good soil.
So, where do we go from here? We
faithfully march into the Promised Land and reap the harvest, while remaining in
continuous worship. Church, we will not march in with axes or swords. No, we will march
in, laying down the sword and shield by the river side. We will march in, with our hands
lifted towards heaven. We will march in, praising God. We will march in singing, The
Lord is worthy to be praised. We will march in, surrendering all to Jesus. We will
march, in continual worship. The worship will cause the shackles of slavery (sin) to fall
from our feet. Church, when we get into the Promised Land and reap our harvest, we will
not be stooped over as slaves (to sin) picking cotton. Instead, we will reap the harvest
the same way we marched. We will lift up our hands in praise. We bow for no one, but the
Lord. In our worship, shackles will fall from our feet. Worship will break the yoke from
off our backs. When you turn to your left or your right and see your family and friends in
Christ, make sure you only speak the living Word of God. We march forward and reap,
lifting our hands in total praise.
Finally, I pray that it is Gods
will for the Bishop to allow me to stay at Union to see the vision:
Season one: We Worship, Study,
and Prepare for the Promised Land.
(singing Come and go with me to my Fathers
house. There is joy, peace, love, kindness, etc.)
Season two: We Worship, Study, and March into the Promised Land. (breaking new ground and through barriers)
Season three: We Worship, Study,
and reap into the Promised Land.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. M. W. Davis,
Pastor
